YouRTI FAQ

What is YouRTI?

YouRTI is a Web platform that simplifies and streamlines the process of submitting Right-to-Information requests to government entities. Users can submit and track their requests securely.

What can I do with the YouRTI?

  • Prepare a request under the Right to Information Act 2005
  • Easily lookup the appropriate contact or add it to a crowd-sourced database
  • Send requests and track their status
  • Share a request with other YouRTI users or add it to a list of publicly searchable requests
  • Create a request 'template' when you have to send the same request to multiple agencies across multiple governments
  • Search for other users requests and responsive documents
  • Share your RTI experience with other users

What is RTIA?

The Right of Information Act (2005) was passed by the Indian government allowing citizens to gain access to government records.

Who is doing this?

The service is provided by Yugantar, a not-for-profit organization based in Hyderabad.

How do you make money from this?

For individuals, filing requests and browsing responses on YouRTI is free if they make their requests publicly viewable. If an individual wants to make a private request that is not visible to other users, then we will charge a fee for filing that request. The responses to private requests go directly to the person making the request. For institutions and businesses, we sell subscriptions to access the information.

How I can contribute?

Use the platform and let us know how we can improve YouRTI by sending us feedback to info@yourti.in.

Are there similar projects?

Yes, there are several other projects to help you create and send RTI requests. We believe our approach is different. YouRTI makes filing RTI requests as easy as possible, and we do not charge a fee.

Can I file a request without registering?

Yes

Do I have to pay for the service?

No

Would you sell my data?

No. We will not sell individual user data. Occasionally, we will create reports about how the system is working and who is using it, but no identifying information will ever be published.

How do I know if my request was submitted?

You can check the status on YouRTI.

How am I notified when records are available?

Emails will arrive in your personal inbox. Click here for a full explanation about how YouRTI works its magic.

How do I track the progress of my request?

You can track your requests by logging into YouRTI, where you will find your dashboard, or by using your tracking number to follow the status of your request. If you give us your email address, we will send you notifications when the status of your request changes.
